Transparent Oceans: The Defeat of the Soviet Submarine Force
Louis P. Solomon
The apparently unsolvable problem of detecting and tracking Soviet submarines was solved by an unknown program called the Long Range Acoustic Propagation Project (LRAPP). The efforts of LRAPP helped make the oceans "transparent" for proper detection equipment; the Soviet submarine force could then be destroyed, on command, starting in the late 1970s. The total cost for this unheralded and virtually unknown project was less than $250M over a 25 year period. The solution to the antisubmarine warfare problem was a major contributor to the success of the United States in winning the Cold War. This book is a history of the LRAPP program from its founding to its dissolution, including pictures of the people and equipment, a list of all the people who participated in the project, and a map of all the locations where at sea experiments were conducted over more than two decades.
The Third Legacy
Louis P. Solomon and Linda Kaye Jenkins
The basis for this novel is an unsolved World War II mystery: How did Herman Goering, former Reichsmarschall of the Nazi regime, obtain the cyanide capsules that ended his life and cheated the hangman at Nuremberg?
A car crash results in the death of the parents of Bob Shelburne, an uncomplicated young man from Des Moines, Iowa. Returning to his childhood home, Bob discovers documents which completely alter his prosaic life and family history. A journal written by his grandmother reveals family secrets, as well as details of her experiences as a young woman in Nazi Germany. Accompanying the journal is a letter to his grandmother that discloses the information that her brother, Ken Hochster, was the American M.P. who was paid by the Nazis to provide Goering with the cyanide capsules in his jail cell at Nuremberg. The letter also indicates how Hochster was paid—with a great amount of money and five Nazi-confiscated art masterpieces, that were placed in a safe-deposit box in Switzerland. Inside a separate envelope are Hochsterʼs will and a safe-deposit box key.
These revelations send Bob on a voyage of discovery that completely transforms his life. He encounters love, danger, and death. His dogged determination to follow the trail begun by his great uncle leads to events that shake the foundations of the international art world.
Unknown Connections
Louis P. Solomon and Linda Kaye Jenkins
Unknown Connections is a compelling saga of men struggling to preserve the freedom of their respective countries that spans seven generations and the entire 20th century. After their parents are butchered in a pogrom in 1905, Isaac and Noah Shmurak leave Russia. The brothers abandon their religion and their names to establish new lives in new lands. Although they never meet again, the lives of their descendants are strangely parallel, although in different countries. Follow these families through the triumphs and tragedies of the Russian Revolution, World Wars I and II, and the Cold War. How does the Shmurak legacy climax in the development of the Russian and American submarine forces, and what does a photograph of a Jewish bride and groom taken in 1880 mean to two admirals—one Russian and one American? Unknown Connections weaves a rich tapestry of history, adventure, and once classified naval technology to bring the saga to its exciting conclusion.
Gotcha!
Louis P. Solomon, Linda Kaye Jenkins and Jerome Morenoff
Gotcha! is a fictitious story based on real events involving unethical business practices used by large American corporations to enhance the value of their publicly traded stock. The resulting collapse of entities such as Enron and WorldCom led to severe financial losses to public stockholders and the catastrophic loss of pension funds and health specifically to thousands of employees. The corporate executives responsible for the collapse of these companies, however, were rewarded for their mismanagement with “golden parachutes.”
Gotcha! specifically a story of a group of former managers of the bankrupt Whittaker Corporation who conspire to exact revenge against the corporate executives responsible for the companyʼs demise. These vigilantes attempt to execute a series of illegal scams involving burglary, fraud, and prostitution intended to ruin the lives of the executives who destroyed the company. Retribution is sought under the principle of “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.” So, while Gotcha! is a novel, and based upon our joint imaginations, every part of it could be, and might be true...
God’s Amazing Hands
Sharon Goss
God's Amazing Hands is a child's "Creation" book about the first six days of the world according to the Bible. Delightful hand-drawn illustrations are reminiscent of the early work of Grandma Moses. The simple text serves as either a read-aloud or an early reader book.
When You Stand
Ned Bayley
Ned Bayley was born in Battle Creek, Michigan in 1918. His parents were members of a fundamentalist Christian Church whose adherents believe that only they would be saved and go to Heaven when Jesus came to Earth for the second time. When Ned went away from home to enroll in college, he realized that there were a large number of people who were laden with lives as constructive and helpful to society as the members of his parent's Church. This stimulated him to enroll in a study of religion along with his studies in agriculture. Throughout his entire professional life as a researcher, teacher, administrator and policy director in agricultural sciences, his personal studies continued on the relationship between religion and the findings of science and the facts of recorded history.
These studies intensified following his retirement.
As they had in the past, his more recent readings and personal experiences convinced him that traditional churches were continuing to ignore the findings of science and recorded facts of history in determining their beliefs and doctrines. The challenge of this book is for individuals and churches to re-examine their beliefs and realigning them in accordance with what is known today of the findings of science and the facts of history. The author points out that, if this challenge were met, many of the differences among religions would disappear and many of the violent clashes between people of different religions that still occur could be avoided. Most important, the lives of individuals would be greatly improved as well as would their efforts to obtain a moral unobstructed existence for themselves and for society.
The Solomon Haggadah
Louis P. Solomon
Many American Jews have modest Jewish knowledge, but with strong ties to Judaism. We celebrate the holidays, at least some of them, to some extent. Our family members have married, divorced, and are now populated with Jews like themselves and with many Gentiles who are part of their family. Where is the Haggadah for such a family?
Passover is a universal holiday and has meaning to all people; but many of the participants in a Seder simply do not have the knowledge or interest to follow rote procedures that have been changed by knowledgeable Jewish scholars and rabbis over time. These Jewish-American families want to have a Seder service that follows the traditions of Jews throughout the world, but has meaning for them in their lives, in this country, at this time. So, I took it upon myself to write a Haggadah that would meet our needs.
This Haggadah will not meet the needs of Orthodox or Conservative Jews; in fact, they would consider this Haggadah almost hilarious. This Haggadah was specifically written to try to bring the concepts and meanings of the Passover holiday to people with very little or no detailed knowledge of Jewish ritual, Jewish traditions, Jewish procedures, and of course, no knowledge of Hebrew.

Library of the Sands
Louis P. Solomon
This is a novel about what could have happened to the contents of the fabled Library of Alexandria, Egypt. The city of Alexandria and its fabled library was founded by Alexander the Great in April of 334 BCE. It was burnt down three times: The first was in 47 BCE by Julius Caesar during an assassination attempt on his life. The second was during the Christian Riots of 415 CE. The third and final was the deliberate burning by Amr bin al-As, the general of the invading Arab Armies in 637 CE. But was the collection of centuries totally destroyed? Did the Chief Librarian see what might happen to this magnificent collection of scrolls and knowledge which was his responsibility? Did he take steps to preserve the best of the collection? If so, how could he have done so? This novel raises the intriguing concept that there are still hundreds, maybe thousands of ancient manuscripts still hidden in the desert, waiting to be discovered.
