BOOK SALES

Book Dealers require that Pearl River Publishing be the intermediary with the author. In general, they will not deal directly with individual authors.

Amount Paid to Authors After Sales by Book Dealers

There are several different cases, and the amount you will receive depends on how you deal with issues relating to your book. If you feel that your case is special, please contact us, and we will see how we can arrive at a reasonable agreement.

Examples

Case 1:

Authors have their books published by Pearl River Publishing. Most book dealers pay Pearl River Publishing 75% of the retail price after they sell the book. Some dealers pay less than this amount as their standard practice. Pearl River Publishing pays the author two-thirds of the book’s payment received from the book dealer. That leaves Pearl River Publishing with revenue of one-third of the book’s payment received from the book dealer.

An example:

Book Dealer Pays PRP 75% of Retail Price OR 60% of Retail Price
Retail Price of Book to Public $20
PRP Receives from Book Dealer $15 OR $12
Author Receives from PRP $10 OR $8
PRP retains $5 OR $4

Please remember that the author must pay all costs of publishing the book before it is offered for sale, so the author’s net income may not actually be 50% or 40% of the selling price, as shown above.

Case 2:

Authors may have their books printed and published by a company other than Pearl River Publishing. The arrangements with the book dealers will be the same as given in the example provided in Case 1; however, in this case, Pearl River Publishing will charge the author an annual subscription fee of $100 for handling and distributing their books to the book dealers.

Additional Charges

All additional incidental costs (e.g., mail or shipping charges and applicable sales taxes) are borne by the author.
